Nun of Your Business

While shopping in a food store, two nuns happened to pass by the beer, wine, and liquor section. One asked the other if she would like a beer.
The second nun answered that, indeed, it would be very nice to have one, but that she would feel uncomfortable purchasing it.
The first nun replied that she would handle it without a problem. She picked up a six-pack and took it to the cashier. The cashier was surprised, so the nun said, This is for washing our hair.
Without blinking an eye, the cashier reached under the counter and put a package of pretzel sticks in the bag with the beer.
The curlers are on me.

Why makes this Joke funny?

Explanation:
- Setup:
... One asked the other if she would like a beer.... She picked up a six-pack and took it to the cashier.
Here, the setup introduces a scenario where two nuns, typically associated with strict moral and ethical codes, are considering buying beer. This already sets up a comedic scenario because it contrasts with the usual expectations of a nun’s behavior. It provides the first surprise that nudges against our expectations: it`s slightly unexpected and incongruous to imagine nuns debating buying a beer, providing a light, initial punch.
- Punchline:
... The curlers are on me.
The punchline comes in two parts:
  1. The nun`s explanation for the beer — "This is for washing our hair" — is an unexpected and seemingly implausible excuse that adds to the absurdity of the situation.
  2. The cashier`s response — "The curlers are on me" (implying that the pretzel sticks are “curlers” for their “hair-washing”) — doubles down on the nun’s improbable excuse by playing along and adding an additional, unexpected twist. The humor arises from the cashier not only accepting the nun’s transparent excuse but also cleverly and humorously extending the joke further.
The funniness stems from the absurdity and unexpectedness of the situation, where all characters are acting incongruently to what might be expected in reality, offering a playful and light-hearted look at the interaction between moral expectations (nuns not buying beer) and clever, witty banter (the cashier`s response). Keep in mind, humor can be quite subjective and while some might find this amusing, others might not based on their own beliefs, experiences, and perspectives.
